Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Spanner -3122B-, see equivalent → Anchor
t  Compression tool -3362- wit Compression tool -3362/1-, see Equivalent → Anchor
t  Extractor -3364-, see equivalent → Anchor
t  Hose clamp -3365-, see equivalent → Anchor
t  Hose clamp -VW 653/3-, see equivalent → Anchor

Valve shaft seals: removing
(With cylinder head installed)
–  Remove valve timing housing → Chapter.
–  Remove camshaft housing → Chapter.
–  Remove roller rocker arms and place on a clean surface. Ensure that roller rocker arms are not mixed up.
–  Unscrew the spark plugs using spark plug socket and extension -3122B-.
–  Set piston of respective cylinder to „bottom dead centre“.
   
–  Screw in the pressure tool -3362- together with the compression element -3362/1-.
–  Fit locking tool -VW 653/3- in the spark plug thread.
–  Connect pressure hose to compressed air system supplying at least 6 bar and remove valve springs.
–  Pull off valve stem seals with extractor -3364-.
Installing valve stem oil seals
Install in reverse order to dismantling, noting the following:
  N15-0081
–  Place plastic sleeve supplied on respective valve stem. This will prevent damage to new valve stem seal.
–  Place new valve stem seal in valve stem seal fitting tool -3365-.
–  Lubricate the sealing lip of valve stem seal and carefully slide the seal onto the valve guide.
–  Install camshaft housing → Chapter.
–  Adjust valve timing → Chapter.
Further assembly is performed in the reverse order of removal:
t  Install timing housing → Chapter.
t  Fit the fuel lines → Chapter.
