Checking compression
Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Spark plug socket and extension -3122 B-
t  Torque wrench (5…50 Nm) -V.A.G 1331-
t  Check compression -V.A.G 1763-
t  Extractor -T10094 A-

Test condition
l  Engine oil temperature at least. 30 ℃.

Operation process
–  Unplug connector -1-.
–  Remove bolts -arrows-.
l  Gas hoses remain connected to gas rail.
–  Release the wiring from the fixing of the carrier cover and from the gas hoses.
–  Place the fuel rail „Gas rail“ aside and fix without removing the cables and hoses.
  E00-10900
–  Remove bolts -arrows- and lift the carrier cover upwards and away.
–  Remove the air filter housing → Chapter.
–  Remove ignition coils → Chapter.
Use puller -T10094 A- for this.
–  Remove spark plugs using the spark plug socket -3122 B-
  E00-10901
–  Remove the fuse holder from the injectors. Fuse installation → Current flow diagrams, Electrical fault finding and Fitting locations
–  Get a second mechanic to fully depress the accelerator pedal.
–  Check compression with compression tester -V.A.G 1763-.
  Note
See relevant test unit operating instructions for instructions on how to use compression tester.
–  Operate starter until tester shows no further pressure increase.
Compression pressure
New: 10 … 15 excess pressure wear limits: 7 bar excess pressure
Permissible difference between all cylinders: 3 bar
–  Fit spark plugs with the plug spanner -3122 B- and tighten to 30 Nm.
Further assembly is basically the reverse of the dismantling sequence.
  N24-1481
–  Install the carrier cover and tighten the screws -arrows- to a tightening torque of 8.5 Nm.
–  Mount the cables and gas hoses on to the fixing points of the carrier cover.
  E00-10901
–  Install the fuel rail „Gas rail“ and tighten the screws -arrows- to a tightening torque of 4 ± 0.4 Nm.
–  Insert the connector -1-.
–  Consult fault memory; if necessary, repair any faults and then erase fault memory → Vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051„guided fault finding“
If the fault memory has been erased, you must generate the readiness code again.
