Part II Chain control - Assembly overview
1 - Cylinder head with camshaft housing
q   Sealing surface must not be reworked.
q   With integrated camshaft bearings
q   Remove old sealant residues
q   Coat with AMV 188 001 02 before installing.
q   When installing, insert vertically from above so that dowel pins fit into holes in cylinder head.
2 - cylinder block
q   Dismantling and assembling cylinder block → Chapter.
q   Dismantling and assembling pistons and conrods → Chapter
3 - Spring retainer
q   For tensioning element and air conditioner compressor.
q   removing and installing → Chapter
4 - Pinions
q   For oil pump drive and timing chain.
q   Contact surfaces must be free of oil and grease.
5 - Drive chain
q   Before removing, mark direction of rotation (installation position).
6 - Guide rail
q   For timing chain
7 - 25 Nm
8 - Chain tensioner with tensioning plate
q   For oil pump drive.
9 - Tensioning spring
10 - Oil pan
q   Remove and install on engines with liquid gasket → Chapter.
q   Clean sealing surface before installing
q   Install with silicone sealant D 176 600 A1.
11 - 15 Nm
12 - 15 Nm
13 - Pinions
q   Lock chain sprocket using counterhold -T10172-.
14 - Cover
15 - 20 Nm + retighten 1/4 turn (90º)
q   Replace
16 - Piston
q   For drive chain tensioner.
17 - Compression spring
18 - Chain tensioner
19 - 9 Nm
20 - Distribution housing
q   removing and installing → Chapter
q   Install with sealant D 176 501 A1.
q   When installing, install two studs -M6x80- in cylinder block and camshaft housing as a guide.
q   To improve timing case guidance, secure sump in position with two bolts.
21 - Mounting bush
q   Contact surfaces must be free of oil and grease.
22 - Pulley
q   Removing and installing crankshaft pulley → Chapter
q   Contact surfaces must be free of oil and grease.
q   Secure against turning with counterhold -3415- when removing and installing
q   The turning further angle can be measured with a commercial protractor.
q   Poly-V belt: removing and installing → Chapter
23 - 150 Nm + retighten 1/2 turn (180º)
q   Replace
q   Removing and installing crankshaft pulley → Chapter
q   Contact surface for securing bolt must be free of oil and grease.
q   Oil threads before inserting.
q   Secure belt pulley against turning with counterhold -3415-.
q   The turning further angle can be measured with a commercial protractor.
24 - O ring
q   Replace
25 - 10 Nm
26 - 50 Nm
27 - 10 Nm
28 - To intake manifold
29 - 10 Nm
30 - Vacuum valve
31 - 10 Nm
32 - Oil separator
33 - Seal
q   Replace
34 - Tensioning plate
35 - 50 Nm + retighten 1/4 turn (90º)
q   Lock chain sprocket for inlet camshaft in place, using counterhold -T10172-
q   Replace
36 - 50 Nm + retighten 1/4 turn (90º)
q   Lock chain sprocket for exhaust camshaft in place, using counterhold -T10172-
q   Replace
37 - Pinions
q   For inlet camshaft.
q   Fix in place with counterhold -T10172- for removal
38 - Timing chain
q   Before removing, mark direction of rotation (installation position).
39 - Pinions
q   For exhaust camshaft.
q   Fix in place with counterhold -T10172- for removal
40 - Guide pin
q   Tightening torque: 20 Nm
