Special tools and workshop equipment required
   
t  Hand pump -SAT 1390-

t  Vacuum tester -VAG. 1368-
Test condition
l  Ignition must be switched off.
Checking sequence

–  Disconnect the vacuum pipe -1- to the active carbon filter (by pressing the release tab).

–  Continuously connect hose -1-, hand vacuum pump -SAT 1390- and vacuum tester -VAG. 1368- as shown in the figure.
–  Set vacuum tester to -A/B- position.
–  Operate the hand-operated vacuum pump -SAT 1390-several times. Vacuum must not build up.
If a vacuum builds up:
–  Test the ventilation hose -3- of the active carbon filter -2- for dirt, if necessary, clean it.
If a vacuum does not build up:
–  Temporarily seal breather hose -3- and operate vacuum pump several times. A vacuum must build up.
If a vacuum does not build up:
–  Replace active carbon deposit -2- → Chapter .
