Vacuum switch in the intake manifold upper part: Checking fuel system for leaks
–  Remove the vacuum tube to the variable intake manifold changeover switch -1- from the variable intake manifold changeover valve -arrow-.
  Note
The actuator for the variable intake manifold change over is incorporated into the intake manifold and is not visible from the outside.
–  Connect the hand-operated vacuum pump -VAS 6213- to vacuum tester -V.A.G 1368--connection B-.

–  Connect vacuum hose to the actuator to vacuum tester -V.A.G 1368--connection A-.
–  Adjust the vacuum tester -V.A.G 1368- in position -A/B- .
–  Operate the manual vacuum pump -VAS 6213- a few times. Create an vacuum pressure up to maximum 500 Millibar.
–  Vacuum must not drop.
If vacuum drops:
–  Replace the intake manifold upper part → Chapter.
If pressure does not drop:
–  Remove intake manifold lower section → Chapter.
–  Check vacuum positioning element for leaks again. Check if the change-over valve move.
–  Check intake manifold change-over mechanism for freedom of movement.
If no fault is found:
–  Replace the intake manifold upper part.
