Characteristics of the self-diagnosis
The control unit for the direct injection and diesel preheating system is provided with a fault memory.
When there is a fault in any of the sensors or components under supervision, the fault is memorised, together with the kind of fault it is, in the fault memory.
Temporary faults (sporadic) are printed with the indication that it is a “sporadic fault”. The displays shows such faults with the additional indication “/SP”. Sporadic faults might be caused by a loose contact or temporary breakage of a cable. If the sporadic fault does not reoccur in 50 starts of the engine, it is deleted from the memory.
If faults are detected that affect the behaviour of the vehicle, the preheating time warning light will flash.
Memorised faults can be read with the -VAG 1551- or -VAG 1552- units → Chapter.
Once the fault/s have been eliminated, the breakdown memory should be cleared → Chapter.
  Note!
For general information on the self-diagnosis, see the instructions manuals of the -VAG 1551- and -VAG 1552- units.
