Special tools and workshop equipment required
   
t  Vehicle information, measurement and diagnosis system -VAS 5051-
Checking conditions
l  Fuse number 20, correct.
l  Battery voltage, 11.5 V minimum.
l  Ground connections between the engine (gearbox housing) and the bodywork (next to the battery), correct.
l  Ground connections in the water box, correct.
Sequence of operations
–  Remove the object carrier cover from the driver side.

–  Connect the -VAS 5051- unit using the -VAS 5051/1- or -VAS 5051/3- cable as follows:
–  Connect the diagnosis cable on the diagnosis terminal.
–  Depending on the function required, the ignition must be turned on or the engine started → Anchor“Selectable functions”.
  Note!
t  In the functions “04 - Basic adjustment” and “08 - Read measurement value block” the different indication fields appear from top to bottom.
t  If the display does not show the messages indicated with the sequence of operations: → Instructions manual for the System of vehicle information, measurement and diagnosisVAS 5051.

–  On the display, press the key for “Vehicle self-diagnosis”-arrow-.

On the display we have the identification of the coding control unit -arrow-, for example:

f the version of the control unit of the vehicle fails to appear on the display, the control unit must be replaced → Chapter.

Selecting the diagnosis function:
In this situation, all the diagnosis functions are available.
–  Touch the required function on the display.
–  Continue as described in repairs.
