Disassemble and assemble the exhaust system components
   
Disassemble and assemble the exhaust system components
  Note!
t  After the assembly tasks performed on the exhaust system, the deformation of the system and the maintenance of a proper distance from the bodywork must be watched for. If it is necessary, the fastening clamps can be loosened. Align the muffler and the exhaust pipe in such a manner that there is a sufficient distance from the bodywork in all places and the suspension supports a homogenous load.
t  The auto-fixing nuts must be replaced.
Exhaust pipe elbow joint, front exhaust pipe with catalyst, lambda probe
1 - Hot air retaining plate
2 - 10 Nm
3 - Exhaust pipe elbow joint
4 - Safety nut 25 Nm
5 - Junta
q   Replace
6 - Lambda probe, 55 Nm
q   Grease the threads only with -G5-; the -G5- should not enter the grooves on the assembly of the probe.
q   Disassemble and assemble the -3337- equipment
q   Check: → Rep. Gr.01
q   Check the lambda probe and the lambda adjustor: → Rep. Gr.24
q   Check the lambda probe heater: → Rep. Gr.24
7 - To prior muffler
8 - Mark
q   Three times in the circumference
q   S = gearbox A = automatic transmission
9 - Front exhaust pipe with catalyst
10 - 40 Nm

q   Three times in the circumference
q   S = gearbox A = automatic transmission
3 - Double clamp
4 - Measurement -a- = approx. 5 mm
5 - Cylindrical bolt with lowered head
6 - 23 Nm
7 - Prior muffler → Note
8 - Fastening tie
q   Replace if damaged
9 - Union strap
10 - 15 Nm
11 - Suspension
q   Replace if damaged
12 - 22 Nm + turn 1/4 (90°) rotation more
13 - Additional muffler → Note
14 - Mark
q   Visible from below
q   For double repair clamp → Item
15 - Point of separation
q   In case of repair → Note
q   Marked with an engraving in the connection tube
16 - Double repair clamp
q   Should be slipped toward the marks → Item

1)  The previous and additional mufflers are assembled in series like a single part. For repair previous and additional mufflers are joined to create a connection, together with the repair clamp, → Item. In the separation point -15- cut the union tube with a saw for bodywork, i.e. -V.A.G. 1523-, making a straight angle.
