While testing or fitting, the other control units may also detect faults, such as unplugged connectors. Thus, once work is finished, consult and clear all control unit fault memories, as follows:
–  Press 0 twice to enter the address code “Automatic test cycle” and press Q to confirm the entry. The -V.A.G 1551- will emit all known address codes in succession.
If the control unit responds with its identification, the display will show the number of faults found or “no faults found”.
Stored faults are displayed and printed out in succession. Then the -V.A.G 1551- sends the next address code.
   
The automatic test has ended when the displays reads as follows:
–  Clear all fault memories and then carry out a road test.
Take the necessary precautions during road tests → Chapter.
During the road test the following service conditions must be met:
t  The coolant temperature must reach over 80 °C.
t  Once that temperature has been reached, the following load states must be reached several times idling half load full load deceleration.
t  At full load revs must surpass 3500 rpm.
–  Consult all control unit fault memories again by means of the “Automatic test cycle”.
If no fault is stored:
–  Press →.
–  Press 0 and 6 for the function “End data transmission” and press Q to confirm the entry.
–  Switch off the ignition.
