Special tools and workshop equipment required
   
t  Vehicle information, measurement and diagnostic system -VAS 5051-
Test conditions
l  Fuses 15, 18, 20 and 21, OK.
l  Battery voltage, 11.5 V minimum.
l  Earth connections between the engine (at the gearbox housing) and bodywork (next to the battery), OK.
l  Earth connections on the water tank, OK.
Work sequence
–  Remove the driver side parcel tray.

–  Connect the -VAS 5051- with diagnostic lead -VAS 5051/1- or -VAS 5051/3-, as follows:
–  Connect the diagnostic lead in the diagnostic terminal.
–  According to the function desired, switch on the ignition or start the engine → Chapter, “Selectable functions”.
  Note!
t  In the functions “04- Basic settings” and “08-Read measurement value block” the display fields are displayed from top down.

Select the function mode:
–  Press “Vehicle self-diagnosis” on the display -arrow-.

Select the vehicle system:
–  Press “01-Engine electronics” on the display -arrow-.

The display shows the control unit identification and encoding -arrow-, for example:
  Note!
If the control unit version corresponding to the vehicle is not displayed, replace the control unit → Chapter.

Select the diagnostic function:
In this situation all diagnostic functions are available.
–  Touch the function desired on the display.
–  Carry on according to the repair descriptions.
