Coding engine control unit
Coding engine control unit
The control unit must be recoded if the relevant vehicle coding is not displayed or the control unit has been renewed, as follows:
  Caution
Always first read the identification of the control unit, and if necessary, print it out!
Wrong coding can negatively affect the engine, the gearbox and the emmissions!
Special tools and workshop equipment required
   
t  Fault reader -V.A.G 1551- or vehicle system tester -V.A.G 1552- with cable -V.A.G 1551/3B-
Test sequence
–  Connect fault reader -V.A.G 1551- (V.A.G 1552) and select engine electronics control unit with the “address code” 01. The ignition must be switched on. (Fault reader: Connecting and selecting the engine electronics control unit → Chapter.)

If, in the fault reader -V.A.G 1551- display, the control unit identification is displayed, the control unit must be coded (example).
t  There are two zeros before the variant of the gearbox (SG).
t  The version of the software comes identified by a a four-digit number, e.g. 0602, or by a combination of letters and numbers, e.g. KD02.
t  The indication KDxx means that this engine control unit is now a replacement unit. The coding to be entered must be seen in the printed message that refers to the engine's control unit.
–  Press the →-key.

The control unit coding is shown in the fault reader -V.A.G 1551- display, for example:
–  Press the →-key.
–  Press keys 0 and 6 for the “End data transfer” function and confirm input with the Q-key.
–  Disconnect the ignition and reconnect it again.
  Note!
On disconnecting and reconnecting the ignition the code that has been introduced is activated. If the ignition is not connected and disconnected after having introduced the valid code, the fault “control unit, incorrect code”, can not be erased.
–  Erase the fault memory → Chapter.
