Removal:   Note t  Before disconnecting the battery, consult the customer regarding the anti-theft code provided with the radio. t  If the battery is reconnected, check the vehicle equipment (radio, clock, comfort system, electric window lifter, etc.), following the indications in the Workshop Manual and/or the Operating Instructions.   WARNING Before working on the electrical system, disconnect the battery earth strap. –  Disconnect battery. –  Remove the driver's airbag → Airbag unit on driver's side: removing and installing; Rep. Gr. 69 –  Put the steering wheel in the “centre position” (wheels straight).

–  Remove airbag plug connection -arrow-. –  Remove the steering wheel → Removing and installing steering wheel; Rep. Gr.69.

–  Remove the steering column upper lining for the steering column by pressing the lugs -arrows-, and fold outwards towards the instrument panel -arrow 2-.

–  Unscrew the bolts -arrow 1-. –  Lower the steering wheel height and depth adjustment lever -arrow 2-. –  Remove the lower part of the steering column lining -arrow 3-.

The steering angle sender -G85- is assembled together with the airbag spring and retractor ring with slip ring -F138--1- in one enclosure. only in vehicles from 11.05

–  Secure with adhesive tape -2- the spring for airbag/retractor ring with slip ring -F138--1- in the centre position. Continued for all vehicles –  Remove the steering column combination → Steering column combination: removing and installing; Rep. Gr. 94.   WARNING During testing, prise off the steering angle sender -G85- to the side of the steering column combination, the retaining tabs may be damaged.

–  Insert a screwdriver in the slit of the steering column combination switch, -arrow- and release the retaining tab -2-. –  Detach the retaining tabs -1- and remove the steering angle sender -G85- from the steering column combination.
