Hand brake: adjustment > < Rear brake: repairing
Brake shoes: removal and installation
Brake shoes: removal and installation
Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Spring pliers
Removing
–  Raise the vehicle.
–  Unscrew wheels.
–  Remove brake drum:Before removing, retract the brake linings through the wheel bolt threaded holes → Fig.
–  Removing spring plate bolt.
–  Unclip lower retraction spring.
–  Remove brake shoes.
–  Disconnect hand brake cable:
–  Place brake shoes in a workshop vice.
   
–  Remove the wedge draft spring and the upper return spring -arrows-.

–  Unclip contact spring -arrow-.
–  Separate the pushrod and the brake shoe wedge.
Installation

–  Attach contact spring and fit brake shoe onto the pushrod.
–  At the same time insert the wedge.

–  Insert brake shoe with brake lever onto the pushrod.
–  Attach the upper return spring.
–  Hang the brake cable from the hand brake lever.
–  Fit brake shoes onto wheel brake cylinder pistons.
–  Fit the lower retraction spring and insert the shoe on the lower support.
–  Attach wedge draft spring.
–  Fit the compression spring with spring plate.
–  Installing the brake drum.
Vehicles with drum brakes up to 08.00
–  Adjust wheel bearing play → Fig.
Continued for all vehicles
–  Press the brake pedal with the vehicle stationary and the rear brake will be adjusted.
–  Adjust hand brake → Chapter.
