As of the 2009 models, 3rd generation steering gear is used. Replaces the 2nd generation steering box
Vehicles with 2nd generation steering gear and the ABS / ESP Mark 60 system can be retrofitted with 3rd generation steering gear. To read about this, please see the → Electronic parts catalogue„ETKA “.
If a vehicle is equipped with the ABS Mark 70 system and 2nd generation steering gear, retrofitting with 3rd generation steering gear is not possible in the event of a repair. To read about this, please see the → Electronic parts catalogue„ETKA “.
   
When 2nd generation steering is replaced by 3rd generation steering, the electrical cable -3- must also be replaced.
The steering can be differentiated (when installed) by counting the number of attachment bolts.
–  Raise the vehicle.
The picture shows a 2nd generation steering gear.
2nd generation steering gear is secured using 4 bolts -8- to the subframe.
3rd generation steering gear is only secured using 3 bolts -8- to the subframe; also the clamp -9- is no longer present.

3rd generation steering is secured using one 1 bolt only-5- to the (right) subframe; also the clamp -1-, the rubber-metal mount -2- and the bracket -3- are no longer required.

The picture shows the fastening devices for a 2nd generation steering gear.
Service works to the 3rd generation steering are identical to those for 2nd generation steering.
