It is not intended that repair work be carried out on the power assisted steering box. If problems are reported, perform a pressure test and a leakage test to determine the cause. If a fault is detected, renew the power assisted steering box.
  Note
t  Renew self locking nuts and bolts. Welding and straightening work on steering components is not permitted.
t  To lubricate steering rack, use only steering box grease -AOF 063 000 04-.
t  Renew self locking nuts and bolts.
t  Fluid type: hydraulic fluid -G 002 000-
t  Quantity of oil in system: approx. 1 ltr.
The specified torques for
t  Lock nut on track rod
t  Steering box to sub-frame
t  Track rod to steering box
t  Track rod ball joint to wheel bearing housing
are the same for left and right-hand drive.
They are not shown in this illustration.
1 - 10 Nm
2 - Heat shield
3 - Pressure line
q   30 Nm
q   The pressure pipe must not touch the return line.
4 - Union bolt
q   12 Nm
q   For return line.
5 - Seal
q   Renew.
6 - Power steering box
q   Removing and installing to model year 2000 → Chapter.
q   Removing and installing from model year 2001 → Chapter.
7 - Stop
Must rest on surface -arrow A-.
