Care and maintenance of light alloy wheel rims
Regular maintenance is required to keep light alloy rims looking good over long periods of time.
They should be carefully washed at least every two weeks in order to remove de-icing salt and the remains of braking friction, otherwise these will attack the wheel rim covering.
Cleaning products
Suitable cleaning products include:
t  Water or soapy water
t  Water and vinegar essence
t  Special cleaning products designed for this purpose which do not contain acids or aggressive solvents.
The cleaning product should not be left on the wheel rim for longer than the specified application time.
The shorter the recommended soaking time, the stronger and more aggressive the cleaning agent.
Damage to the protective coat
If the protective coat of lacquer is damaged, for example by flying stones, it should be repaired immediately → Chapter.
Removing the remains of glue from light alloy wheel rims
t  Strong solvents and acids attack the upper layer of enamel on light alloy rims, dulling the treated area and giving it an opaline appearance. Therefore, products of this type should not be used.
t  To remove adhesive residue on alloy wheels, use alloy cleansers or a petrol-based cleanser. The specified application period should not be exceeded.
t  Wash rims thoroughly with water after cleaning or removing remains of glue.
