Tyres with emergency running characteristics SST/runflat (self-supporting tyre) |
SST tyres are labelled on the sidewall with a special RSC symbol (= Runflat System Component). |
This system is characterised by tyres with reinforced side walls. When the tyre looses pressure the side walls support the entire weight of the vehicle in curves as well as when driving straight ahead and prevent the rim from coming into contact with the pavement. |
As with the PAX system these tyres must be installed in combination with special rims for them to function correctly. |
SST tyres may be used on vehicles with a tyre inflation pressure control system. |
Note the special installation instructions for SST tyres. |
It is not permissible to mount SST tyres together with standard tyres on one car, even in pairs on one axle. It is only permissible to mount a standard tyre in exceptions for a short period of time or short distance. However, this can negate the specific advantages of SST tyres in the event of a flat while driving and it is necessary to notify the customer of this expressly. |
Note t
| When all pressure is lost, it is possible to continue the trip at a maximum speed of 80 km/h for a distance of not more than 50 km. |
t
| After use in an emergency running situation it is necessary to replace the tyres. |
t
| It is necessary to check the rims immediately for possible damage and replace them if necessary. |
