Retrofitting/prerequisites for use of tyres with emergency running characteristics
Since loss of pressure is not always recognisable at first glance on tyres with emergency running characteristics, it is necessary for vehicles on which such tyres are used to have a tyre inflation pressure control system. With such a system the drive is notified when the inflation pressure drops to below a certain value.
Tyres with emergency running characteristics require rims with extended double hump (extended double hump EH2) → Chapter.
Observe the special instructions for mounting → Running gear, axles, steering; Rep. gr.44.
Mixed mounting together with standard tyres is not permissible even in pairs on one axle.
A standard tyre may be mounted only in exceptions for a short time or for a limited distance. However, this eliminates the special emergency running characteristics and it is necessary to advise the driver of this specifically.
