Steering column switch from 11.05: Removing and installing
Steering column switch from 11.05: Removing and installing
  WARNING
The retractor ring with collector ring must not be turned when disassembled.
–  Put the steering wheel in the “centre position” (wheels “straight”).
–  Disconnect battery → Chapter.
–  Completely remove steering wheel with regulating device and adjust downwards.
Removing:
–  Remove airbag unit and steering wheel → Interior body installation work; Rep. Gr.69
–  Install upper and lower sections of steering column trim → Chapter.
   
–  Fasten the retractor ring with collector ring -1- with adhesive tape -2- in the central position.
–  Remove the combined switch in the steering column → Chapter
  WARNING
The retractor ring with collector ring must not be turned from the central position (fix the mounting position with adhesive tape).

From 11.05, thespring for airbag/retractor ring with contact ring -F138--1-, no longer has the safety spring which locks the ring. Including those equipped with a steering wheel angle sender -G85-.
Installing:
Install in reverse order, observing following:
  E94-10119
–  Remove the adhesive tape -2-, once the steering column combined switch -1- has been set.
–  Fit airbag unit and steering wheel → Body, interior fitting work; Rep. Gr.69.
–  Begin basic adjustment of the Steering wheel angle sender -G85- → Running gear, self-diagnosis; Rep. Gr. .
–  In vehicles with ABS/ESP Mark 60, carry out the ESP driving test in “Basic adjustment 093” → Running gear, self diagnosis; Rep. Gr..
Total or partial replacement of the steering wheel column with or without sender-G85- :
From 11.05, the spring for airbag/retractor ring with contact ring -F138-, no longer has the safety spring which locks the ring. Including those equipped with a steering wheel angle sender -G85-.

Spare parts are supplied with a safety clip which holds the spring for airbag/retractor ring with contact ring -F138-.
The spare parts can be found in the Electronic parts catalogue (ETKA).

Installing:

Installing is carried out in the order mentioned in the previous chapter, bearing the following in mind: → Chapter

–  When the entire unit or one of the components are fitted, remove the safety clip -1-, once the combined switch has been fitted to the steering column.
  Note
As an aid to centre the steering angle sender. In the opening -1- a yellow spot should be seen.
