Information on the use and the safety of the gas discharge lamps
Information on the use and the safety of the gas discharge lamps
–  When performing mounting work in the main headlight with gas discharge lamps you must observe the following:
t  Indications related to high voltage / dangerous currents → Anchor
t  Indications related to pressure, temperature, and radiation/voltage arcs → Anchor
t  Indications related to the mounting of gas discharge lamps → Anchor
t  Norm related to the management of gas discharge lamps waste → Anchor
Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Protective glasses
t  Gloves
  WARNING
Before performing any work that affects the parts of the gas discharge headlights marked with a yellow high voltage symbol you must disconnect the battery earth strap.
The dipped headlight must then be switched on and then off again. This eliminates the possibility of any existing residual voltage.
The gas discharge headlamp control unit should never function without the gas discharge lamp.
The gas discharge lamps can only be used in the headlamps due to high voltages (above 28,000 V when the lamp is switched on) and temperatures.
  WARNING
Never replace lamps if you are not well versed with the corresponding procedure, the preventive measures for safety and the tool
Indications related to high voltage / dangerous currents
  WARNING
The lighting system control units, the connectors or components in the lamp holder area carry a dangerously high voltage.
The control unit and the primer should only be made to function together with the lamp.
  WARNING
l  Switch off ignition and all electrical loads, and pull out ignition key.
l  It should be established that to perform work in the headlight systems all the components be without voltage and that the residual voltage has been discharged after the headlight switchoff.
l  The residual voltages are discharged by again switching the dipped beam on and off, after having removed the contact key.
l  It should be established that for work in the headlamp system you can not switch on the lights.
Indications related to pressure, temperature, and radiation/voltage arcs
  WARNING
l  The lamp should only be made to function in the headlamp casing (tactile isolation protection because it is a very hot lamp; absorption of UV radiation; avoiding the danger of fire; anti-explosion protection).
l  The lamp glasses may reach very high temperatures - risk of burn injuries.
l  Do not look directly into the light beam; UV light beams from gas discharge bulbs have approx. 2.5 times more power than halogen bulbs.
l  Avoid looking at the beam (risk of being blinded); your vision may be affected during a prolonged time.
  WARNING
l  Avoid the contact with broken glass bulbs.
l  The H7 bulbs and the gas discharge lamps (xenon and bixenon) are subject to pressure and may explode when being replaced - risk of suffering injuries.
l  The use of protective gloves and goggles is compulsory when removing and fitting gas discharge lamps.
Indications related to the mounting of gas discharge lamps
  Caution
t  Before replacing a bulb it is necessary to always deactivate first the affected electrical consumer.
t  Switch off ignition and all electrical loads, and pull out ignition key.
t  Do not touch the bulb glass directly with the fingers; use clean textile material gloves. The substances of a fingerprint that would stay on the bulb evaporate with the heat of the lamp switched on and will be deposited in the reflector, which affects the luminous capacity of the headlamp.
t  A bulb should only be replaced by another of the same version. The denomination is marked in the lamp socket or on the lamp glass.
t  Correctly fit the connectors upon mounting and observe that the connection is firmly seated.
Norm related to the management of gas discharge lamps waste
  WARNING
l  The gas discharge lamps should be eliminated as special waste; never get rid off gas discharge lamps via domestic rubbish.
l  The gas discharge lamps contain metallic mercury (Hg) and traces of Thalium; they should not be destroyed.
l  These components should be moved to a residual disposal in accordance with national law.
l  Dispose the residue only in special containers for this purpose, giving it to the unit in charge of its reception.
