Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Spring tensioning device, e.g. -V.A.G 1752/1 -
t  Spring holder with protective lining, e. g. -V.A.G 1752/4-
t  Socket wrench insert waf 21 -MP6-427 (3186)-
Removing the coil spring:
–  Removing the suspension strut → Chapter.
  Note
   
t  Check correct seating of the helical spring in the spring tensioner, e.g. -V.A.G 1752/4-, -arrow-.
t  Do not use an impact screw driver when working with the spring tensioner.

–  Preload the helical spring with the spring tensioner e. g. -V.A.G 1752/1 - until the suspension strut bearing -3- is relieved.
–  Unscrew the nut from the piston rod using the socket wrench insert SW 21 -MP6-427 (3186)- and counterhold the piston rod with an hexagonal wrench -2-.
1 -  Ratchet; when installing torque spanner
–  Remove individual parts of the suspension strut and the preloaded coil spring using the spring tensioning device, e.g. -V.A.G 1752/1 -.

Installing the coil spring:
  S40-0290
–  Position the preloaded helical spring with spring tensioning device on the bottom spring washer.
   The extremity of the spring coil must lie against the stop -arrow-.
Further installation occurs in reverse order.
–  Assembly and summary of components of the suspension strut → Chapter.

Tightening torque:
Nut of suspension strut bearing on piston rod60 Nm
