Testing camshaft position sensor G163
Testing camshaft position sensor -G163-
Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Handheld multimeter, e.g. -V.A.G 1526 A-
t  Adapter cable set, e.g. -V.A.G 1594 A-
Test conditions
l  Battery voltage 11.5 V
Test sequence
   
–  Unplug 3-pin connector -1- from camshaft position sensor -2-.
–  Connect handheld multimeter for voltage measurement to contacts 1 + 3 of connector -1-.
–  Switch on ignition.
Specified value: at least 4.5 V
–  Switch off ignition.
–  Test cables for open circuit, short circuit to earth and to positive → Current flow diagrams, Electrical fault finding and Fitting locations
If the wiring is in proper order and the desired voltage was measured at contacts 1 + 3
–  Replace camshaft position sensor -G163-.
If the wiring is in proper order and the desired voltage was not measured at contacts 1 + 3
–  Replacing engine control unit → Chapter.
