Replacing the right flange shaft seal ring > < Replacing the flange shaft gasket rings (gearbox assembled)

Replacing the left flange shaft gasket ring
Replacing the left flange shaft gasket ring
Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Extraction hook -MP3-419/37 (VW 771/37)-
t  Inertia extractor -MP9-501 (VW 771)-
t  Pressure plate -T10082-
t  Sealing grease -G 052 128 A1-
Remove left gasket ring
–  Turn steering to full left lock.
–  Remove wheel and raise vehicle.
–  If applicable remove the noise insulation below the engine/gearbox → Body Work → Rep. Gr.50.
–  Remove the wheelhouse liner from the left wheelhouse → Body Work → Rep. Gr.66.
–  Unscrew the drive shaft from the flange shaft.
   
–  Mark installation position of bolts -1- for steering joint, otherwise the steering geometry must be checked.
–  Release screws -1-.
–  Unbolt coupling rod -2- from the anti-roll bar -arrow-.
–  Swivel out the wheel-bearing housing.
–  Pull out left drive shaft between assembly carrier and gearbox.
–  For this step guide the drive shaft into the wheelhouse and secure to the suspension strut with wire.
–  Position the catch pan under the gearbox.

–  Unscrew the fixing screw for the flange shaft; to do this, insert two screws in the flange and hold the shaft using a tyre iron.
–  Remove the flange shaft with pressure spring.

–  Remove gasket ring for flange shaft with inertia extractor -MP9-501 (VW 771)- and extraction hook - MP3-419/37 (VW 771/37)-.
Install left gasket ring

–  Drive the new seal ring in up to the stop, do not twist the seal ring.
–  Fill half the space between the sealing lip and dust lip with sealing grease -G 052 128 A1-.
–  Insert the flange shaft.
–  Secure the flange shaft with the conical screw.
–  Screw the steering joint and track control arm with the new screws in the former positions → chassis → Rep. Gr.40.
–  Install coupling rod to anti-roll bar → chassis → Rep. Gr.40.
–  Screw the left drive shaft to flange shaft → chassis → Rep. Gr.40.
–  Install the wheelhouse liner into the left wheelhouse → Body Work → Rep. Gr.66.
–  Attach the wheel.
–  Check gear oil level, if necessary pour in up to lower edge of filler hole → Chapter.
–  Attach noise insulation below the engine/gearbox if present → Body Work → Rep. Gr.50.

Coupling rod to anti-roll bar → Chassis → Rep. Gr.40
Steering joint to track control arm 1) → Chassis → Rep. Gr.40
Wheel bolts to wheel hub → Chassis → Rep. Gr.44

1) Always replace these bolts.
