Differential > < Replacing the left flange shaft gasket ring

Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Extraction hook -MP3-419/37 (VW 771/37)-
t  Drive bushing -MP3-489 (3158)-
t  Inertia extractor -MP9-501 (VW 771)-
t  Sealing grease -G 052 128 A1-
Remove right gasket ring
–  If applicable remove the noise insulation below the engine/gearbox → Body Work → Rep. Gr.50.
–  Turn steering to full right lock.
   
–  Remove protective cap for drive shaft (if present) from the engine -arrows-.
–  Unscrew the drive shaft from the flange shaft.
–  Tie up the drive shaft as far as possible. Avoid damaging the paintwork on the drive shaft during this operation.
–  Position the catch pan under the gearbox.
–  Unscrew the fixing screw for the flange shaft; to do this, insert two screws in the flange and hold the shaft using a tyre iron.
–  Remove the flange shaft with pressure spring.

–  Pull out seal ring for flange shaft with -VW 771 (MP9-501)- and -VW 771/37 (MP3-419/37)-.
  Note
t  Do not damage the bushing -A- as this will cause leaks.
t  If damaged replace bushing → Chapter.
Install right gasket ring
  A39-0329
–  Drive the new gasket ring into the bushing up to the stop, do not twist the gasket ring.
–  Fill half the space between the sealing lip and dust lip with sealing grease -G 052 128 A1-.
–  Insert the flange shaft.
–  Secure the flange shaft with the conical screw.
–  Screw the right drive shaft onto the flange shaft → chassis → Rep. Gr.40.
–  Check gear oil level, if necessary pour in up to lower edge of filler hole → Chapter.
–  Attach noise insulation below the engine/gearbox if present → Body Work → Rep. Gr.50.
