Removing and installing, testing pencil type glow plugs
Removing and installing, testing pencil type glow plugs
Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Flexible-head wrench SW 10 -3220-
t  Hand multimeter, e.g. -V.A.G 1526 B-
Removing
–  Switch off ignition and withdraw ignition key.
–  Disconnect the plugs from the pencil type glow plugs.
–  To release the glow plugs, use socket wrench SW 10 -3220-.
Install
Installation is performed in the reverse order, pay attention to the following points:
–  Install pencil type glow plugs and tighten to 15 Nm.
Inspection
Test conditions
l  Ignition off.
Test sequence
–  Disconnect the plugs from the pencil type glow plugs.
–  Connect handheld multimeter -V.A.G 1526 B- for resistance measurement between contact and pencil type glow plug housing.
l  Nominal resistance value: less than 1Ω
If the nominal resistance value is exceeded (greater than 1Ω), then the pencil type glow plug is defective.
–  Replace defective pencil type glow plug.
–  Check pencil type glow plugs one after the other in all cylinders.
–  Re-insert disconnected plugs of pencil type glow plugs.
