Testing compression pressure → Chapter.
  Note
t  When installing a replacement cylinder head with fitted crankshaft moisten the contact surfaces between the bucket tappets and the cam slide with engine oil.
t  Do not remove the plastic bases supplied as a protection for the open valves until just before fitting on the cylinder head.
t  After replacing the cylinder head, the system must be completely filled with fresh coolant.
t  It is not permissible to rework the cylinder head of diesel engines.
1 - Cylinder head gasket
q   replace
q   Pay attention to the marking → Fig.
2 - 20 Nm
3 - Cylinder head
q   check for distortion → Fig.
q   removing and installing → Chapter
q   after replacing fill entire system with fresh coolant → Chapter
4 - Lifting eye
5 - Ball knob screw, 8 Nm
q   for attaching the engine cover
6 - Cylinder head bolt
q   replace
q   pay attention to sequence for loosening and tightening → Chapter
7 - Oil deflector
8 - Cylinder head cover
q   with vulcanized gasket
q   if the seal has been damaged replace cylinder head cover
9 - Collar
q   replace if damaged
10 - Screw cap
q   Replace seal if damaged
11 - Ventilation tube
q   To intake manifold
12 - Retaining clip
13 - Pressure control valve
q   for crankcase ventilation
14 - Gasket
q   replace if damaged
15 - 10 Nm
16 - Injection lines
q   tighten: 25 Nm
q   remove with open ring spanner
q   replace as a set only
q   do not change bending form
17 - Support
18 - 20 Nm
19 - Vacuum pump
q   for brake servo unit
20 - 20 Nm
21 - Gasket
q   replace

   
Inspecting the cylinder head for distortion
Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Feeler gauges
t  Knife-edge straightedge
Max. permissible distortion: 0,1 mm
  Note
It is not permissible to rework the cylinder head of diesel engines.

Identification of the cylinder head gasket
t  Part number = -arrow 1-
t  Control code = -arrow 2- (ignore)
t  Bores = -arrow 3-
  Note
Cylinder head seals of different thicknesses are fitted depending on the piston projection from the cylinder block. If only the seal is replaced the new seal must bear the same identification.
