Testing and adjusting commencement of injection
Testing and adjusting commencement of injection
Always test and if necessary set the commencement of injection after replacing the toothed belt or after releasing the screws on the injection pump or on the injection pump gear.
Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Counterholder -MP1-216- or -T30004-
Test conditions
l  The toothed belt is correctly tensioned.
Test sequence
Check the injection begin point dynamically and adjust → Vehicle diagnostic tester.
  Note
No setting is required if during testing the commencement of injection is in the nominal value range.
If the commencement of injection is outside the nominal value range, adjust the commencement of injection as follows:
–  Switch off ignition.

–  Remove engine cover.
To do so pull the front and rear engine cover upwards with a sudden motion.
–  Remove top toothed belt guard.
  S10-0115
–  Loosen two fixing bolts -1- for the injection pump gear.
–  Counterhold the injection pump shaft on the fixing nut -2- of the hub using the counterholder.
–  Loosen the third fixing screw -1- for the injection pump gear so that the injection pump shaft is turnable:
   turn to the left
⇒ commencement of injection later
   turn to the right
⇒ commencement of injection earlier
  Note
On no account release the nut of the injection pump shaft -2-, otherwise this could result in a misadjustment of the basic setting of the injection pump. The basic setting cannot be undertaken using normal workshop tools.
  S23-0098
Version -A-, fixing screws with relief under the head and tip -arrows-
–  Tighten the new fixing bolts of the injection pump gear.
   Tightening torque: 20 Nm
  Note
t  After a dynamic test of the start of pump delivery tighten the fixing bolts to the torquing angle by 90° (1/4 turn).
t  The fixing bolts must be used once only as they are antifatigue bolts.
  N13-0614
Version -B-, fixing screws without relief under the head and without tip
–  Tighten the old fixing bolts of the injection pump gear.
   Tightening torque: 25 Nm
  Note
Do not replace the fixing bolts.
Continued for all versions
–  Check the commencement of injection once more → Vehicle diagnostic tester.
If the commencement of injection is outside the range of the nominal value:
–  Correct the positioning of the pump gear to the injection pump shaft, until the nominal value is reached.
Version -A-, fixing screws with relief under the head and tip
–  Tighten the new fixing screws for the injection pump gear to the torquing angle by 90° (1/4 turn).
Continued for all versions
–  Switch off ignition.
–  Install top timing belt cover and engine cover.
