Electronic Engine Power Control (Electronic throttle) > < Venting air from the fuel system
Switching off the fuel delivery unit using the crash signal
Switching off the fuel delivery unit using the crash signal
Operation
The vehicles with airbag are equipped with a crash signal fuel shut-off system. If the airbag units are ignited while driving, the fuel pump relay opens and the fuel delivery unit is deactivated. This also enhances the starting behaviour of the engine. When the door is opened, the fuel pump is operated for about 2 seconds so that pressure is built up in the fuel system.
If the crash signal is activated, faults are stored in the fault memory. Therefore the fault memory of all control units must be interrogated and erased → Vehicle diagnostic tester.
