Bleeding the brake system of air without using the brake filling and bleeding device > < Bleeding the hydraulic unit (vehicles with ESP)
Bleeding the brake system using the brake filling and bleeding device, e. g. VAS 5234
Bleeding the brake system using the brake filling and bleeding device, e. g. -VAS 5234-
Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Brake filling and bleeding device, e. g. -VAS 5234-
t  Bleeding bottle (commercially available)
t  Brake fluid → Chapter
  Note
t  Bleeding of the brake system on vehicles with ABS is undertaken in the same way as for vehicles without ABS.
t  On vehicles without ABS and with load-dependent brake-power regulator, move the lever of the brake-power regulator while bleeding the rear wheel-brake.
–  Remove dust caps from the vent valves of the brake calipers/wheel-brake cylinder.
–  Switch on the brake filling and bleeding device (at a pressure of approx. 2 bar) and open the bleeder valves in the prescribed sequence.
–  Bleed the brake calipers or the brake cylinder with the hose of the bleeding bottle.
–  It must be bled until the brake system is fully bled, i.e until even the smallest air bubbles have escaped.
Bleeding sequence
1.  Rear right wheel-brake cylinder/brake caliper
2.  Rear left wheel-brake cylinder/brake caliper
3.  Front right brake caliper
4.  Front left brake caliper
–  After bleeding close the relevant bleeder screw and fit dust cap.
–  Disconnect the brake filling and bleeding device.
–  Disconnect the brake filling and bleeding device from the brake fluid reservoir.
–  If necessary, correct the brake fluid level in the brake fluid reservoir.
Vehicles with ABS BOSCH 8.0, BOSCH 8.2 and vehicles without ABS
–  Perform a test drive. While doing so, at least one ABS adjustment must be carried out on vehicles with ABS!
  Caution
Before the basic setting is performed, first of all the brake system must be fully bled until even the smallest air bubbles have escaped from the system.
The air bubbles would penetrate into the ABS hydraulic unit when performing the basic setting.
It is very difficult to remove these air bubbles from the ABS hydraulic unit.
Vehicles with ABS//TCS/ESP BOSCH 8.0
–  Perform basic setting of vehicle diagnosis, measurement and information system -VAS- → Chapter.
–  Perform test drive with at least one ABS adjustment!
Vehicles with ABS//TCS/ESP BOSCH 8.2i
–  Perform basic setting of vehicle diagnosis, measurement and information system -VAS- → Vehicle diagnostic tester.
–  Perform test drive with at least one ABS adjustment!
