t  Extractor -MP6-425 (3283)-
t  Polycarbamide grease -G 052 142 A2 -
Removing:
–  Unscrew twelve-point nut for securing the drive shaft → Chapter
–  Remove front wheel.
–  Remove the sound dampening system → Body Work; Rep. gr.50.
–  Unscrew the drive shaft from the flange shaft - gearbox, if necessary remove the protection plate above the inner joint.

–  Unscrew the nuts -arrows-.
–  Remove track control arm from steering joint.
–  Swivel out the wheel-bearing housing with the suspension strut and simultaneously remove drive shaft from flange shaft and from wheel-bearing housing.
  Note
t  The drive shaft must not hang down! The inner joint can be damaged by excessive offset.

t  If the drive shaft cannot be pulled out of the wheel-bearing housing, e.g. for removal use the extractor -MP6-425 (3283)-
–  Remove the drive shaft.
Installing:
  Note
Remove possible corrosion and grease residue from the thread and from the serration of the outer joint as well as from the serration of the wheel-bearing housing.
–  Grease the serration on the propeller shaft with polycarbamide grease - G 052 142 A2-.
Do not grease thread on the outer joint of the drive shaft.
–  Grease the serration in the wheel hub with polycarbamide grease -G 052 142 A2 -.
–  Insert the drive shaft into the serration of the wheel-bearing housing.
–  Screw the drive shaft onto the flange shaft/gearbox and tighten first of all crosswise to 10 Nm.
–  Secure the outer joint of the drive shaft with a new twelve-point nut.
–  Tighten crosswise the screws of the drive shaft on the flange shaft - gearbox to the prescribed torque or install protection plate for inner joint.
  S40-0178
–  Position the track control arm onto the steering joint of the wheel bearing housing and tighten the nuts -arrows-.
–  Tighten new twelve-point nut for securing the drive shaft → Chapter
–  Tighten wheel.
–  Perform a test drive.
  Caution
If after the test drive and with the front wheels pointing straight ahead the steering wheel is off straight, perform a chassis alignment → Chapter.

Tightening torques:
Drive shaft to flange shaft/gearbox
t  First of all pre-tighten all screws crosswise up to 10 Nm and subsequently tighten crosswise to final torque
t  Use new screws!
M 8 = 20 Nm + 180°
M 10 = 50 Nm + 45°
Screw of protective plate for inner joint of drive shaft25 Nm
Twelve-point nut for securing the drive shaft to wheel hub
t  Use new nut!
t  Do not grease thread of the outer joint of the drive shaft.
