Removing and installing the timing gear cover
l  Engine installed in the vehicle
Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Supporting device -MP9-200 (10-222A)-
t  Hook -MP 9-200/10-
t  Assembly device -T10121-
t  Sealant remover gasket stripper (bearing code GST, bearing article no. R 34402), manufacturer Retech s.r.o.
t  Cleaning and degreasing agent, e.g. -D 000 401 04-
t  Silicone sealant -D 174 003 A3-
Removing
–  If necessary remove engine cover with air filter → Chapter.
   
–  Mount supporting device -MP9-200 (10-222A)- and take up the weight of the engine/gearbox assembly at the suspension hook.
–  Remove V-ribbed belt → Chapter.
–  Remove right engine mounts → Chapter.
–  Remove belt pulley for control pump → Chapter.
–  Remove guide pulley (only on vehicles with air conditioning) → Chapter.
–  Remove tensioner with tensioning pulley → Chapter.
–  Remove alternator → Electrical System → Rep. Gr.27.
–  Remove the ventilation pipe of the cooling system → Chapter.
–  Interlock the crankshaft with an assembly device -T10121- → Chapter, screw out the crankshaft screw and pull off the belt pulley - crankshaft.
–  Remove the oil pan, guide pipe of the oil dipstick and possibly also the oil level and oil temperature sender -G266- (vehicles with WIV) → Chapter.
–  Remove the connection for the vacuum regulating valve (PCV valve).
–  Screw out all screws on the timing gear cover.
–  Remove the timing gear cover. Use slight knocks with a rubber-headed hammer from outside to loosen the cover as necessary (the timing gear cover sits on the fitting sleeves).
  Note
Cover the area around the sealing surfaces so that no sealant residues can find their way into the timing gear drive.
  WARNING
Use protective gloves and protective googles when working with sealant and grease remover!
Use a sealant remover to remove sealant residues on the timing gear cover.
–  Clean the sealing surfaces on the timing gear cover and engine. They must be free of oil and grease.
