Check end stage for ignition transformer
Check end stage for ignition transformer
Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Test box -V.A.G 1598/22-
t  Hand multimeter -V.A.G 1526 A- or multimeter -V.A.G 1715-
t  Voltage tester -V.A.G 1527 -
t  Measuring cables -V.A.G 1594 A -
t  Current flow diagram
Test conditions
l  Hall sender o.k.
l  Ignition transformer o.k.
Checking voltage supply
–  Disconnect the 3-pin plug from the ignition transformer.
   
–  Connect the multimeter with measuring cables from -V.A.G 1594 A- for voltage measurement to the contacts 1 and 3 of the removed plug.
–  Switch on ignition.
   Specified value: at least 11 V
If no voltage is present:
–  Switch off ignition.
–  Check cable between 3-pin plug contact 1 and earth for open circuit according to the current flow diagram.
   Cable resistance: max. 1.5°Ω
–  Check cable between 3-pin plug contact 3 and relay plate for open circuit according to the current flow diagram.
   Cable resistance: max. 1.5°Ω
Test control
–  Unplug connectors from the fuel injection valves.
  S28-0037
–  Connect voltage tester -V.A.G 1527- with measuring cables from -V.A.G 1594 A - and intermediate pieces -V.A.G 1594/15- to the contacts 2 and 3 of the plug.
–  Actuate the starter and check the ignition signal on the 1AV control unit.
   The LED must flash.
If LED does not flash:
  S28-0038
–  Connect test box -V.A.G 1598/22 - to the connector of the control unit.
–  Check cable between the test box bush 16 and the 3-pin plug contact 2 for open circuit according to the current flow diagram.
   Cable resistance: max. 1.5°Ω
–  Test the cables for short circuiting with each other.
   Specified value: ∞°Ω
If no fault was detected in the wiring and if there was no voltage between contact 1 + 3:
–  Replace 1AV control unit - J382- → Chapter.
If the voltage supply and the actuation are o.k.:
–  Fit the 3-pin plug and the ignition cable onto the ignition transformer.
  S24-0104
–  Connect up the voltage tester using adapter cables and terminals to the contacts 1 and 15 on the ignition transformer.
  WARNING
During the following test do not touch the connecting parts of the ignition transformer or the auxiliary cables.
–  Actuate the starter - the LED must flash.
