Replacing engine control unit
Replacing engine control unit
  Note
The learning values are erased when the plug is removed from the 4AV control unit, the fault memory contents are retained.
Removing
–  Switch off ignition.
–  Remove plenum chamber cover → Body Fitting Work; Rep. Gr.66.
  Note
The control unit must not be removed in order to connect the test box - V.A.G 1598/22- (for inspection of parts).
–  Release plug locks at engine control unit and unplug plug connector.
   
–  Use a screwdriver to push the catch of the fixture to the side and pull out the engine control unit forward.
Install
Installation is carried out in the reverse order.
  Note
t  In the first learning phase during the engine basic setting a somewhat irregular idling and a slight jerking may be noticed while driving.
t  After installing the engine control unit, it is necessary to carry out the following steps:
–  Perform a basic setting of the new engine control unit → Chapter.
–  Adapt the engine control unit to the electronic immobiliser → Chapter.
