Testing activated charcoal filter system solenoid valve 1 N80
Testing activated charcoal filter system solenoid valve 1 -N80-
Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Vehicle system tester -V.A.G 1552 - with cable -V.A.G 1551/3-
t  Test box -V.A.G 1598/22-
t  Hand-held multimeter e.g. -V.A.G 1526 A - or multimeter -V.A.G 1715-
t  Measuring tool set - V.A.G 1594 A-
t  Current flow diagram
Test conditions
l  The fuse 132 in fuse holder on battery must be O.K.

l  Fuse no. 43 o.k.
Check tightness
In dead condition the solenoid valve is closed.
  S97-0319
–  Detach hose -1- from activated charcoal filter solenoid valve 1 -2--N80-.
–  Push auxiliary hose onto available valve connection.
–  Insert plug to solenoid valve.
–  Initiate an actuator diagnosis (function 03) and select the activated charcoal filter solenoid valve 1 -N80- → Chapter.
–  Check the correct opening and closing of the solenoid valve by blowing into the auxiliary hose during the final control diagnosis, if necessary replace solenoid valve.
Check solenoid valve -N80- (ACF valve)
  WARNING
To avoid damaging the electronic components, switch on the relevant measuring range before connecting the measuring cables and comply with the test conditions.
–  Pull out plug at the ACF valve.
  S24-0176
–  Perform a resistance measurement with the hand-held multimeter between the valve contacts.
Specified value: 22...30 Ω.
–  If the specified value is not reached, replace the ACF valve.
Inspect ACF valve voltage supply
  Note
The voltage supply for the ACF valve is performed via the fuel pump relay.
–  Pull out plug at the ACF valve.
  S24-0160
–  Connect the voltage tester between contact 1 of the plug and the engine mass.
–  Start engine.
Specified value: The voltage tester must light up.
–  If the voltage tester does not light up, check the wiring of contact 1 to fuse for continuity, if necessary repair.
→ Current flow diagrams and Fitting locations
–  If the wiring is o.k., test fuel pump relay → Chapter.
Check actuation of ACF valve
  S24-0299
–  Connect voltage tester between contact 2 and battery positive (+).
–  Initiate an actuator diagnosis (function 03) and select the activated charcoal filter solenoid valve 1 -N80- → Chapter.
  Note
For this test, it is not necessary to remove the fuel pump relay and bridge the contacts.
Specified value: The voltage tester must flash.
  S24-0298
–  If the voltage tester does not light up or lights up continuously, connect test box -V.A.G 1598/22- at wiring loom to engine control unit.
–  If the voltage tester lights up permanently, check the earth lead of contact 2 for short-circuit according to vehicle mass.
–  If the voltage tester does not flash, check the wiring from contact 2 of the plug to bush 15 of the test box for open circuit as well as short-circuit to positive.
–  If the cable is not found to be faulty, replace engine control unit → Chapter.
