Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Torque wrench
t  Hot bolt paste -G 052 112 A3-
Removing
  Note
t  Avoid a large deflection of decoupling element, max. deflection 10 °.
t  Always replace self-locking nuts.
t  Vehicles with engine identification characters AGU have only 1 lambda probe upstream of catalytic converter.
   
–  Detach cover for plug connection of lambda probes -2- and disconnect the electrical line with retaining clips from the heat shield.
–  Pull plug connections out of cover and separate.
For vehicles with four-wheel drive
–  Remove middle exhaust pipe → Anchor, Pos. 6.
–  Disconnect propshaft from gearbox and place down to the side → Manual Gearbox 02C; Rep. Gr.39.
Continued for all vehicles
–  Unbolt front exhaust pipe from exhaust turbocharger.
–  Slacken bolted connections of double clamp between catalytic converter and front silencer and push to the rear.
–  Remove front exhaust pipe.
Install
Installation is performed in the reverse order. Pay attention to the following points:
–  Apply hot bolt paste to the stud bolts on the exhaust turbocharger -G  052 112 A3 -.
–  Align exhaust system free of stress → Chapter.
  Note
Connecting and disconnecting plug connections causes faults to be stored in the engine control unit. It is therefore necessary to interrogate the fault memory → 1.8 l/110 kW Engine, Fuel Injection and Ignition System Motronic; Rep. Gr.01.
