Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Vehicle system tester -V.A.G 1552- with cable -V.A.G 1551/3-
Test condition
l  Operating temperature of at least 80°C.

Check for proper operation
The adjustment of the inlet camshaft is performed in line with engine load and speed. The oil pressure on the camshaft adjuster is shifted by the electrical valve of the camshaft adjuster (mechanical adjustment installation).
–  Run engine at idling speed.
The camshaft adjustment is active only 2 seconds after the start.
–  Read measured value block (function 08) and display group 025 → Chapter.

Readout on display:
–  Read off display in display block 3.
Specified value: X X0
The actuation of the camshaft adjustment is not active.
–  Perform a test drive.
–  Accelerate vehicle from slower speed (1000 rpm) in the 2nd gear with accelerator pedal depressed.
  WARNING
The -V.A.G 1552- should be operated by a second person.
–  Read off display in display block 3.

The actuation of the camshaft adjustment is active.
  Note
t  The display field indicates, whether an adjustment of the camshaft has taken place.
t  The camshaft adjustment only takes place at full load, to do so observe the display in the display field 1.
Specified value without adjustment: -3.0 to 3.0 ° KW
Specified value with adjustment: 15.0 to 22.0 ° KW
–  If the specified values are not reached, test valve 1 for camshaft adjustment → Chapter.
