Tightening torques > < Securing the engine to the assembly stand

Installing
  Note
t  Always replace all seals and gaskets during assembly work.
t  Self-locking nuts must always be replaced.
Installation is carried out in the reverse order; pay attention to the following points:
–  Check whether the dowel sleeves for centering the engine/gearbox are inserted into the cylinder block.
   
–  Insert intermediate plate on sealing flange and push onto the dowel sleeves -arrows-.
Vehicles fitted with a manual gearbox
–  Check the centering of the clutch driver disc.
–  Inspect clutch release bearing for wear and replace if necessary.
–  Smear the drive shaft serration lightly with grease -G 000 100-.
–  Install the slave cylinder of the hydraulic clutch: → Gearbox; Rep. Gr.30.
–  Align unit mounting → Chapter.
–  Attach shift mechanism: → Gearbox; Rep. Gr.34.
–  If necessary set shift mechanism: → Gearbox; Rep. Gr.34.
Vehicles with automatic gearbox
–  Replace lock washer at support bracket of selector lever cable.
–  For attaching the torque converter to the driver disc, only use nuts which are approved in the Catalogue of Original parts.
–  Install selector lever cable at gearbox, adjust if necessary → Automatic Gearbox; Rep. Gr.37.
Vehicles with air conditioning
–  Install AC compressor: → Heating and Air Conditioning; Rep. Gr.87.
All vehicles
–  Install vane pump for power-assisted steering: → Chassis; Rep. Gr.48.
–  Fit the ribbed V-belt → Chapter.
–  Install drive shafts: → Chassis; Rep. Gr.40.
–  Align exhaust system free of stress → Chapter.
–  Install coolant hose → Chapter.
  Note
The drained off coolant must only be then re-used if the cylinder block, cylinder head, radiator or heat exchanger were not replaced.
–  Top up coolant → Chapter.
–  Connect and attach hoses and valves for mechanical exhaust-gas recirculation valve, charge pressure control and changeover valve for intake manifold flap -N239 - → Chapter, → Chapter.
–  Electrical connections and proper routing: → Current flow diagrams and Fitting locations
  Note
If the battery earth strap is disconnected and connected, carry out additional operations → Electrical System; Rep. Gr.27.
–  Inspect engine oil level: → Octavia.
