Draining
  WARNING
Hot steam or hot coolant may escape when the compensation bottle is opened. Cover the cap with a cloth and open carefully.
–  Open the cap of the coolant expansion reservoir.
   
–  Remove engine trim panel in -direction of the arrow-.
–  Remove the sound dampening system → Body Work; Rep. Gr.50.
  Note
Collect drained coolant for proper disposal. Observe the disposal instructions for coolant.

–  Release the drain plug on the radiator -arrow- to the left, if necessary fit auxiliary hose onto connection.

–  Also pull off the bottom coolant hose -arrow- from the oil cooler in order to drain coolant out of the engine.
Filling up
Select the appropriate coolant additive from the catalogue of original parts Škoda or from the list of allowed coolant additives → Octavia.
–  First of all prepare required quantity of coolant mixed to the correct ratio in a suitable vessel → Octavia.
–  Close drain plug on radiator.
–  Connect again coolant hose at bottom of radiator.
–  Fill up coolant gradually into the expansion reservoir until the "max" marking has been reached.
–  Start engine and run for not more than 2 minutes at 1500 rpm; at the same time fill up coolant up to overflow hole on the compensation bottle.
–  Close cap on the coolant expansion bottle.
–  Run engine until fan starts.
–  Inspect coolant level, top up with coolant if necessary. When engine is at operating temperature the coolant level must be at the "max" marking, when engine is cold between the "min" and the "max" markings.
