Exhaust gas recirculation system
  Note
t  The exhaust gas recirculation system is operated by the engine control unit -J248- via the exhaust gas solenoid valve -N18- to the mechanical exhaust gas recirculation valve.
t  Inspect exhaust gas recirculation → 1.9 l/74 kW (TDI) Engine, Fuel Injection and Glow Plug System; Rep. Gr.23.
t  Test exhaust gas recirculation solenoid valve - N18- → 1.9 ltr./74 kW (TDI) Engine, Fuel Injection and Glow Plug System; Rep. Gr.23.
t  The exhaust gas recirculation switches off at idling speed after about two minutes.
t  When taking longer measurements, restart the engine or increase engine speed briefly to more than 1500 rpm. After this repeat the measurement.
t  Connection diagram for vacuum hoses → Chapter.
t  Secure all hose connections with corresponding hose clips.
t  Replace self-locking nuts.

q   Part from inlet connection, always replace complete with inlet connection

q   Inspect control → 1.9 l/74 kW (TDI) Engine, Fuel Injection and Glow Plug System; Rep. Gr.23
5 - 10 Nm
6 - from charge-air cooler
7 - Gasket
q   replace
8 - 25 Nm
9 - Exhaust manifold
q   with exhaust turbocharger
10 - 25 Nm
q   replace
q   Coat thread with hot bolt paste -G 052 112 A3-
11 - Connecting tube
q   for exhaust gas recirculation

   
Engine with engine code AXR
1 - 22 Nm
2 - Intake manifold
q   with mechanical valve for exhaust gas recirculation and intake manifold flap motor -V157-
3 - Gasket
q   replace
4 - Connecting tube
q   from the radiator flap to the mechanical valve for exhaust gas recirculation
5 - Radiator
q   for exhaust gas recirculation
6 - 10 Nm
7 - Exhaust manifold
q   with exhaust turbocharger
8 - 25 Nm
q   Coat thread with hot bolt paste -G 052 112 A3-
9 - Connecting tube
q   from exhaust manifold to radiator flap for exhaust gas recirculation
10 - Changeover valve for radiator
q   when actuating the exhaust gas recirculation valve -2- -N213-, the exhaust gas is led via the exhaust gas recirculation cooler
11 - Support
q   for radiator changeover valve
12 - 5 Nm
