Checking the exhaust system for leaks > < Vehicles with four-wheel drive
Vehicles with front-wheel drive
Vehicles with front-wheel drive
Shop-make tool in accordance with hole diameter of the installed cross member from an M10 or M14 bolt for aligning the exhaust system.
Vehicles with Ø10,5 mm hole in cross member:
   
–  Shop-make tool from an M10 screw, as shown, with the following dimensions:
t  Dimension x = 4 mm
t  Dimension y = 25 mm
Vehicles with Ø14.5 mm hole in cross member:
  A26-0133
–  Shop-make tool from an M14 screw, as shown, with the following dimensions:
t  Dimension x = 10 mm
t  Dimension y = 6 mm
t  Dimension z = 25 mm
Continued for all vehicles
–  Slacken screws of double clamp → Item between front silencer and middle silencer.

–  Insert shop-made tool through the rear hole -arrow- in the cross member → Item with the surface toward the pin of the spring suspensions → Item.
  Note
The exhaust system is pretensioned in the direction of travel when the shop-make tool is inserted.

–  Align the rear silencer so that it is horizontal.
Pin of spring suspension must be parallel to cross member, dimension -x- identical on the left and right.
  Note
On vehicles with fitted repair-double clamp → Item on the separation point between middle silencer and rear silencer sleeve inspect additionally the horizontal position of the rear silencer at the tail pipes.
–  Attach the released double clamp according to the assembly marking and turn in such a way that the screws point to the left and the ends do not project over the lower edge.
–  Tighten bolted connections of the double clamp evenly to 40 Nm.
