Vehicles with 4x4 drive Special tools and workshop equipment required t  Engine/gearbox jack, e.g. -V.A.G 1383 A- t  Pliers for spring strap clips   Note t  do not twist decoupling element more than 10° - risk of damage. t  Protect oxidation catalytic converter against shocks and blows. Removing

–  Remove engine trim panel in -direction of the arrow-. –  Remove the middle as well as the right sound dampening system → Body Work; Rep. Gr.50.

–  Remove middle and right sound dampening system. –  Remove air guide between air filter and exhaust turbocharger.

–  Unscrew nuts -2-, -4- and -5-.

–  Unscrew nuts -arrows- and remove connecting screws at flange between front exhaust pipe and catalytic converter.

–  Slacken screws -arrows- of double clamp after catalytic converter, shift double clamp onto rear silencer and carefully remove catalytic converter.

–  Unscrew hanger from assembly carrier -arrows-. –  Remove pendulum support → Chapter.

–  Unscrew fixing screws of steering -1- and separate steering from assembly carrier (pay attention to dowel sleeves for centering). –  Support assembly carrier with engine/gearbox jack e.g. -V.A.G 1383 A- with universal flat support. –  Release screws -3- and -4-. –  Carefully lower assembly carrier while pressing the steering upwards. –  Pull out front silencer. Install Installation is carried out in the reverse order; pay attention to the following points:   Note Replace gaskets, self-locking nuts and screws tightened to turning angle. –  Position front silencer onto exhaust turbocharger flange and fasten with nuts. –  Install the assembly carrier → Chassis; Rep. Gr.40.

–  Install pendulum support, first the gearbox -arrows B-, then the assembly carrier. Tightening torques → Chapter. –  Install catalytic converter and align exhaust system free of stress → Chapter. –  Install air guide between air filter and exhaust turbocharger.
