Installing cylinder head
  Note
t  Always replace the cylinder head bolts.
t  When conducting repairs sealant residues should be removed from the contact surface of the cylinder head/cylinder block using a chemical cleaner.
t  Remove the new cylinder head seal from its wrapping immediately before fitting.
t  Treat the seal with the utmost care. Damage to the silicone layer and in the area of the bead results in leakages.
t  There must be no oil or coolant in the blind holes for the cylinder head bolts in the cylinder block.
Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Workshop crane (e.g. - V.A.G 1202 A-)
t  Torque wrench
t  Pliers for spring strap clamps
t  Guide bolt -MP 1-208-
t  Adjusting straightedge -MP 1-312-
t  Suspension fixture - MP 9-201-
t  Wrench for cylinder head bolts (e.g. -3452 -)
t  Ring spanner for injection lines
t  Cable strap
t  Wire
Procedure
–  Set the crankshaft and camshaft to TDC for cylinder 1 before attaching the cylinder head → Chapter. The setting straight edge -MP 1-312- must allow itself to be used in the camshaft.
–  Fit on cylinder head gasket.

–  To centre it, screw in locator pegs -MP 1-208- into the outer holes on the suction side.
  S15-0082
–  Hook on lifting device -MP 9-201- at cylinder head.
  Note
The induction pipe must be attached with a wire to the carrier lug of the supporting device, in order to achieve a stable position for the cylinder head.
–  Swivel cylinder head into rear toothed belt guard.
–  Insert 8 new cylinder head bolts and tighten by hand.
–  Remove the locator pegs by screwing out with a bolt tightener from -MP 1-208 - and slightly screw in the remaining cylinder head screws.
  S15-0104
–  Tighten cylinder head screws in four stages in the order shown:
–  1. Pre-tighten with torque wrench:
   Stage I = 35 Nm
   Stage Il = 60°Nm
–  2. Tighten further with a rigid wrench:
   Stage III = 1/4 turn (90 °)
   Stage IV = 1/4 turn (90 °)
  Note
Tightening up the cylinder head bolts after doing repair work is not necessary.
–  Install toothed belt tensioning pulley.
–  Install the timing belt → Chapter
