Check fuel temperature sender G81

Check fuel temperature sender -G81-

Fuel temperature sender -G81- is a component of the injection pump.

Special tools and workshop equipment required

t	Vehicle system tester -V.A.G 1552- with cable -V.A.G 1551/3, 3A, 3B oder 3C-

t	Handheld multimeter (e.g. -V.A.G 1526 A-)

t	Measuring tool set (e.g. -V.A.G 1594 A-)

t	Test box -V.A.G 1598/22- or -V.A.G 1598/31-

Test sequence

–	Reading measured value block, display group 007, engine cool and standing → Chapter.

–	Observe display in display field 1.

In the event of a line interruption to the sender, a replacement temperature of -5.4°C is displayed.

–	End output (function 06) and switch off ignition.

If an implausible value is displayed or if a replacement temperature of -5.4 °C is displayed:

Reading measured value block 7     ->

15.4°C              15.9°C     16.7°C

–	Disconnect the plug connection -arrow- from the injection pump.

–	Connect multimeter onto contacts 4 and 7 of the connector holder -2- to measure the resistance.

Specified value:

The nominal value in field -A- applies for temperature range 0...50 °C, nominal value in field -B- applies for temperature range 50...100 °C.

Example:

t	For a temperature of 30°C the specification is 1500...2000 Ω

t	For a temperature of 80°C the specification is 275...375 Ω

If the specified value is not reached:

–	Replacing injection pump → Chapter.

If the specified value is reached:

–	Connect test box -V.A.G 1598/22- or -V.A.G 1598/31- at wiring loom to engine control unit → Chapter.

–	Test the cable connections for short circuit to positive or negative and for interruption according to the current flow diagram (plug -1-) → Current flow diagrams and Fitting locations.

–	If necessary eliminate wire interruption or short-circuit.

If the lines are not found to be faulty:

–	Replacing engine control unit -J248- → Chapter.
