Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Vehicle system tester -V.A.G 1552 - with cable -V.A.G 1551/3A, 3B oder 3C-
Test sequence
–  Connect vehicle system tester -V.A.G 1552-, start engine and select address word 01 → 2.0 ltr./85 kW Engine, Fuel Injection and Ignition System → Rep. Gr.01.
   
Readout on display:
–  Enter function 04 “Initiate basic setting” and select display group 046.
For engines with engine code AQY and AZH
  
Vehicle system test               HELP
Select function XX
Increase and maintain engine speed at 2800…3200 rpm until the readout in display field 4 changes from “Test OFF” to “Test ON”.
For engine with engine code AZJ
Depress brake pedal and accelerator simultaneously.
  
System in basic setting        46 ->
2900 rpm    360°C     0.55     Test ON
–  Engine speed is increased and the readout in display field 4 switches from “Test OFF” to “Test ON”.
Continued for all engines
–  Catalytic converter temperature in display field 2 must be at least 352 °C.
  Note
This may take a few minutes.
–  Maintain the speed until the readout in display field 4 shows the specified value “CatB1 O.K.”.
For engines with engine code AQY and AZH
–  Check amplitude ratio in display field 3:
   Specified value: max. 0.55
For engine with engine code AZJ
–  Inspect catalyst efficiency in display field 3:
   Specified value: min. 1.00
Continued for all engines
  Note
The catalytic converter diagnosis only takes 100 seconds. If no result is shown within 150 seconds change the engine speed.

If “Cat. B1 N.O.K” is shown in display field 4:
–  Interrogate fault memory: → 2.0 ltr./85 kW Engine, Fuel Injection and Ignition System → Rep. Gr.01.
If the specified value “Cat. B1 O.K” is reached:
–  Press → key.
   
Readout on display:
–  Enter 06 for the function “End output” and confirm the entry with key Q.
