Testing combination valve
Testing combination valve
For engines with engine code AQY and AZH ? 07.2000
Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Hand vacuum pump, e.g. -V.A.G 1390 - or -VAS 6213 -
Test conditions
l  No fault in fault memory: → 2.0 ltr./85 kW Engine, Fuel Injection and Ignition System → Rep. Gr.01
l  Perform final control diagnosis: → 2.0 ltr./85 kW Engine, Fuel Injection and Ignition System → Rep. Gr.01
l  Vacuum lines and hose connections are without any leaks
l  Vacuum lines are not blocked
Test sequence
   
–  Detach vacuum hose -1- from secondary air inlet valve -N112--2-.
–  Connect hand vacuum pump (e.g. -V.A.G 1390- or -VAS 6213-) to vacuum hose -1-.
  Note
Do not use any compressed air during the subsequent test!
–  Detach pressure hose from the secondary air pump and blow into -arrow-.
   Combination valve must be closed.
–  Build up vacuum with hand vacuum pump.
   Valve must open.
If the combination valve does not open:
–  Replace combination valve → Chapter.
For engines with engine code AQY and AZH 08.2000 ?
For AZJ engine
Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Vehicle system tester -V.A.G 1552 - with cable -V.A.G 1551/3A, 3B oder 3C-
Test conditions
l  No fault in fault memory: → 2.0 ltr./85 kW Engine, Fuel Injection and Ignition System → Rep. Gr.01
l  Vacuum lines and hose connections are without any leaks
l  Vacuum lines are not blocked
l  Secondary air pump is o.k.
l  Secondary air pump relay -J299- is o.k.
Test sequence
  Note
The valve is closed in stillstand and is opened by air pressure from the secondary air pump.
–  Remove engine cover → Chapter.
–  Remove intake hose between throttle valve and air filter → Chapter.
–  Slacken top union nut at connection pipe between combination valve and exhaust manifold, or slacken the connection pipe by slightly pulling off.
–  Actuate the secondary air pump relay by means of the final control diagnosis → 2.0 ltr./85 kW Engine, Fuel Injection and Ignition System → Rep. Gr.01.
   Air must flow out of the opened connection points behind the combination valve at regular intervals.
–  The combination valve does not open, replace the combination valve → Chapter.
