Installing gasket ring for joint flange
   
–  Fill half the space between the sealing lip and dust lip -arrow- of the new gasket ring with sealing grease -G 052 128 A1-.
–  Moisten the outer gasket ring with axle oil.
  N32-0001
–  Fully insert new gasket ring with pressure plate -MP3-499 (3319)- and a threaded rod M10 (approximately 80 mm long) as well as a nut with washer.
l  Fitting location: Open side of shaft seal to gearbox.
l  The gasket ring must fit evenly deep all around in the gearbox housing.
–  Position joint flange, disc spring and circlip.

–  Insert joint flange with -MP 3-487-.
The flange can also be inserted using the assembly device for drive shaft -MP3-422 (VW 391)-.
–  Install circlip and seal joint flange with new cap.
–  Screw steering joint to the track control arm.
  S39-0029
–  Tighten screws -arrows- to tightening torque → Chassis → Rep. Gr.40.
–  Screw coupling rod to track control arm → Chassis → Rep. Gr.40.
–  Install drive shaft → Chassis → Rep. Gr.40.
–  Attach the wheel.
–  Check the axle oil in the final drive once the gearbox is installed → Chapter.
Tightening torques
  N40-0259
Drive shaft to gearbox → Chassis → Rep. Gr.40
Pendulum support to assembly carrier1) → Engine → Rep. Gr.10
Protective cap to engine → Chassis → Rep. Gr.40
Wheel bolts → Chassis → Rep. Gr.44

1) Always replace these bolts.
