Removing and installing shift housing Removing –  Remove the complete air filter housing → Chapter.

–  Remove shift cable from intermediate shift lever, to do so unscrew screw -arrow A-. –  Remove shift cable with washer and nut. –  Remove selector rod → Item from selector angle lever → Item → Chapter. –  Pull out bellows towards the front. –  Remove circlips for control cables.

–  Lift off collar upwards -arrows- and pull out to the rear. –  Pull the collar upwards over the gearshift knob.

–  Use a screwdriver to open the warm-type clamp -arrow- and pull off the gearshift knob together with the collar.

–  Release fixing nuts -arrows-.

–  Release double clamp -A- and separate the exhaust system. –  Release cross member -B-. –  Remove shield plates -C- and -D- for control cables. –  Release screws → Item. –  Lower shift housing and pull out with control cables to the rear. Install Installation is carried out in the reverse order.   Note t  Replace possibly damaged gasket between shift housing and underbody. t  Setting the shift mechanism → Chapter. t  Align the exhaust system → Rep. Gr.26. Tightening torques

Shift housing to body, M8 screw	25 Nm
Shift housing to body, M8 nut	25 Nm
Cross member to body	25 Nm
Screw/selector cable at intermediate shift lever	25 Nm

Separate gearshift knob from collar –  Turn collar inside out.

–  Lever off the connecting part -arrow- with a screwdriver. –  Detach connecting part from gearshift knob. –  Turn gearshift knob inside out and detach from collar. Install –  Turn collar inside out. –  Insert gearshift knob into collar. –  Push connecting part over gearshift knob and collar. Press together connecting part until it clicks into place.
