Removing and installing the central tube/dash panel Removing:   Note The work sequence may differ slightly on individual models depending on the equipment version. –  Removing dash panel → Chapter. –  Disconnect plug connection for front passenger airbag → Chapter. –  Remove crash strut in front of the clutch pedal → Transmission System → Rep. gr.30. –  Remove the steering column from the central pipe → Chassis → Rep. gr.48. –  Remove the fuse and relay box from the central pipe → Electrical System → Rep. gr.97. –  Remove the convenience system control unit from the central pipe. –  Remove air guide duct to the defroster vents and air guide duct for dash panel vents → Heating and Air conditioning → Rep. gr.87. –  Remove left footwell vent → Heating and Air Conditioning → Rep. gr.87. –  Remove the heating module carrier from the central pipe → Heating and Air Conditioning → Rep. gr.87.

–  Remove fixing screws -2- (8 Nm) for right dash panel support -1-.

–  Remove fixing screw -1- (8 Nm) from the cross connection -2- and fixing screw -3- (6 Nm) from the fastening bracket -4-.   Note t  As of 11/08 the cross connection (Pos. 2) is not attached to the supports with a screw (Pos. 1), but by means of welding seams. t  Nothing was changed for the right-hand drive.

–  Remove fixing screws -2- (20 Nm) and -3- (8 Nm) for left dash panel support -1- and take out support downwards.   Note t  As of 11/08 the supports (Pos. 1) are not attached to the central pipe with screws (Pos. 3), but are connected by welding seams. t  Nothing was changed for the right-hand drive.

–  Remove fixing screws -1- (20 Nm) and -3- (8 Nm) for frequency support -2- and take out support. –  Take cable harness out of central pipe. –  Remove the plenum chamber cover → Chapter.

–  Remove screw -1- (25 Nm) in the plenum chamber. –  Release all electrical lines from the central pipe.

–  Remove fixing nuts -1- (25 Nm) and take out central pipe -2- to the front and towards the top. Installing: –  Installation is carried out in the reverse order.
