Check fuel pressure senderG247
Check fuel pressure sender -G247 -
If the fuel pressure sender -G247- fails, the fuel pressure regulating valve -N276- is deactivated, the electric fuel pump is fully actuated and the pressure in the fuel distributor is adapted to the pressure in the fuel low pressure area. This results in poor mixture formation, torque reduction and irregular engine running.
Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Assembly tool -T10118-

t  Socket wrench insert with square 3/8", 27 mm
t  Pressure sensor tester, e.g. -VAS 6394- (includes digital manometer -VAS 6394/1-)
t  Adapter, e.g. -VAS 6394/2-
t  Test adapter, e.g. -VAS 5570-
t  Vehicle diagnosis, measurement and information system -VAS 5051-
Mounting sequence:
–  Remove engine cover.
–  Remove fuel pressure sender -G247- → Chapter.
  N24-10478
–  Screw in the adapter -VAS 6294/2- instead of the fuel pressure sender -G247- and screw it tight to the torque of the fuel pressure sender -G247 -.
   Tightening torque: → Chapter
  N24-10489
–  Open the screw plug -2- of the digital manometer -VAS 6394/1- and on this position tighten the removed fuel pressure sender -G247 - to its tightening torque.
  N24-10400
–  Use the test adapter -VAS 5570- in order to establish an electrical connection between the vehicle and the fuel pressure sender -G247-.
  N24-10488
–  Connect the vehicle diagnosis, measurement and information system -VAS 5051--1- as follows:
–  Fit the plug -2- of the diagnostic cable on the diagnostic connection in the driver's footwell.
–  Switch on ignition.
–  On the display press consecutively the following buttons:
Vehicle self-diagnosis
Self-diagnosis
01 - Engine Electronics
011 - Measured values
–  Enter here 140 and confirm with Q.
The actual value which is transmitted to the vehicle by the fuel pressure sender -G247- is shown in the display field 3.
  N01-0590
–  Switch on the digital manometer -VAS 6394/1-. For this step, briefly press the button -A- once.
  Note
If the button -A- is pressed for 2 seconds, the illumination is switched on for 20 seconds.
l  The digital manometer -VAS 6394/1- must indicate 0 MPa (0 bar).
If this is not the case:
–  Briefly press the button -C- once for the zero point of the balance.
  N24-10457
–  Connect the pressure line of the digital manometer -VAS 6394/1- to the adapter -VAS 6394/2-.
–  Start engine.
–  Compare the displayed pressure on the digital manometer -VAS 6394/1- with the actual value on the vehicle diagnosis, measurement and information system -VAS 5051 -.
l  The pressures may range up to max. 0.5 MPa (5 bar).
If the pressures do not correspond, the fuel pressure sender -G247- must be replaced.
  WARNING
The digital manometer -VAS 6394/1- is under high fuel pressure! Disconnect the plug of the fuel pressure regulating valve -N276 - while the engine is running. Thereby the fuel pressure is reduced to approx. 0.6 MPa (6 bar). Switch off ignition. Place a cleaning cloth around the fuel pressure sender -G247-, then reduce the remaining pressure by carefully loosening the fuel pressure sender -G247-.
–  Repeat the test with the new fuel pressure sender -G247- and once again compare both measured values.
If the measured values do not correspond again:
–  Perform a cable testing → Vehicle diagnosis, testing and information system VAS 5051.
If the measured values correspond:
–  Fuel pump relay -G247- OK
