Top up oil in angle gearbox Special tools and workshop equipment required t  Catch pan t  Filling device for Haldex coupling 2, e.g. -VAS 6291- or -VAS 6291A- The angle gearbox is screwed on laterally to the manual gearbox and equipped with its own closed oil supply. Oil specification → Electronic Catalogue of Original Parts. Precondition l  The angle gearbox must be in its installed position. –  Remove the sound dampening system → Body Work; Rep. gr.50.

–  Remove heat shield for right drive shaft from angle gearbox (2 nuts) -arrows-. –  Position the catch pan under the angle gearbox. For topping up, use filling device for Haldex coupling 2, e.g. -VAS 6291- or -VAS 6291A-.

–  Lay hose of filling device for Haldex coupling 2- VAS 6291- through the engine compartment.   Note

On vehicles with particle filter -A-, guide the hose of the filling device for Haldex coupling 2 -VAS 6291- past the particle filter on the right.   Note Cover the area below the oil filler plug with a cloth.

–  Unscrew the oil filler plug -arrow- in the angle gearbox.

–  Screw the adapter -VAS 6291/3--A- into the angle gearbox up to the stop. –  Position the angular piece -B- of the filling hose at the adapter -VAS 6291/3--A- and interlock.   Note The hose must not sag.

–  Ensure that the valve of the filling device -arrow- is closed. –  Screw oil reservoir -A- onto filling device for Haldex coupling 2 -VAS 6291-. –  Open valve -arrow- and hold oil reservoir as shown. Angle gearbox is now filled with oil. –  Close the valve -arrow- after a few minutes, raise the vehicle and check the filling in the angle gearbox: t  If no oil escapes from the adapter -A-, position the angular piece -B- again on the adapter, lower the vehicle and continue the filling procedure.

t  The angle gearbox is already filled up if oil escapes from the adapter -A-. –  Collect the excess oil.   Note Make sure that there is still oil in the hose of the filling device for Haldex coupling 2 -VAS 6291-. As soon as the excess oil does no longer flow out: –  Remove filling device for Haldex coupling 2. –  Unscrew adapter. –  Screw in original oil filler plug. –  Start engine, engage a gear and allow gearbox to rotate for about 2 minutes. –  Switch off the engine, unscrew the oil filler plug and check the oil level, if necessary pour in oil again up to lower edge of oil filler hole.

–  Insert new screw -arrow- and tighten to tightening torque.   Note If oil gets onto the angle gearbox or other components, it must be thoroughly removed. –  Install heat shield for drive shaft. –  Install the noise insulation → Body Work; Rep. gr.50.
